Put More PUNCH Into Your Mixes!
The Problem
You're doing a mix down and you started with the rhythm section. Having finished that, you mix in a few more tracks. Then you notice that the kick drum and the bass guitar seem to be fading out. The levels were fine when you finished the rhythm section mix and they still sound fine if you solo the tracks. So, you raise the levels on the kick and the bass and add some more tracks. Once again, you need to bring up the levels on the kick and the bass. Worse yet, the kick, the bass and all the low frequency tracks are losing their punch, especially during the crescendos.
The problem is current starvation.
Most mixing consoles are underpowered.
The typical stock power supply provides enough current if you're just running a few channels. But if you're running lots of tracks and lots of low frequency program, the channels don't get enough current and transient peeks are "cut off".
