What Are Component Level Upgrades?
Audio electronics manufactures sometimes use mediocre components (such as capacitors and integrated circuits) in their products. This is typical for low budget lines and is sometimes true for even the best makes and models. For select makes and models of gear, we "upgrade" (replace) components in the circuitry with compatible high performance versions. Upgrades may include replacement of op-amps, E.Q. caps, coupling caps, feedback caps and direct-coupling of the audio path. See "Descriptions of Modifications" below for technical details.
What Devices Do You Upgrade?
Click on the type of device listed below to see makes, models and prices.
Upgrades are performed for select makes and models of:
Consoles,
Compressors,
Drum Machines,
Equalizers,
Gates,
Limiters,
Microphones,
Signal Processors,
Synthesizers,
Tape Recorders, and
miscellaneous devices.
When the Demo Available icon appears in the model column for a make and model, it means we use the device (with upgrades) in our
Professional Recording Services
, therefor a demo is available.
Contact us to arrange for demos, upgrades, or if you have any questions.
We also offer Custom Manufactured Console Power Supplies to put more punch in your mix, especially in the low frequencies.
Descriptions of Modifications
In the "Modifications" column, the types of modifications done for
each device are briefly listed. A detailed description of the nature of
each modification appears to the right.
Op-amp Replacement
The stock operational amplifier I.C.s in the circuit are replaced
with high performance, low noise types. Where possible, high speed
video op-amps are used.
Bandwidth Extension
We try to maintain a 2 Hz to 200 Khz bandwidth on upgraded equipment
to minimize phase shift in the audio band. This is accomplished by
changing feedback and coupling capacitors. Audio quality is also
enhanced by the use of higher grade parts. Highs have more "air" and
lows are tighter as a result of wider bandwidth.
Sample & Hold
Sample and Hold op-amps and capacitors are the switches in the
conversion to digital and back to analog. By the use of faster op-amps
and capacitors the signal is converted more accurately. |
